Quick Tip on How to Filet Crochet

Each square in the crochet graph represents 3 double crochets.
Your turning chain will count as the first double crochet.

  • How to figure your base crochet chain

Your first chain is the most important chain in your filet crochet
pattern.  If you count to few you will be off or to many you will
end up with to much.  Here is my quick tip on figuring your 1st
crochet chain.

Count the number of boxes in your crochet graph.
Multiply that times 3.
Add 3 more for your turning chain, which will count as your
first double crochet.

  • Descide if your first crohet square is going to be open mesh or closed.

If your going to do a mesh type design and your first square is going to be open.
You will chain 2 more making your turning chain total to 5.
Double crochet into the 9th chain from your hook.

(if you want to end your double crochets at your slip knot.  If not.:..
your will double crochet into the 8th chain from the hook.)

If your first square is going to be closed.
You will make your turning chain a total of 3.
You will then double crochet into the 4th chain from your hook.

Once you figure that part out, the rest will fall into place.
Your pattern will be easy to do and follow.  That is why, when you create your first
crochet chain it is very important and has to be correct before moving onto your next row of squares.

However, if you are new to this and unsure of these directions to figure your chains.
